The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Jimmy Shergill and Sharman Joshi in lead roles while Sushant Singh, Asrani and Pankaj Kapur appear in supporting roles. The title "Chhapra Ki Dhani" was originally used for this movie while it was being shot but it was replaced with the current title "Munna Bhai MBBS" while it was being released to theatres on 1 December 2004. The movie is loosely based on the story of an Indian con-man, but with a medicinal twist. Munna Bhai (Sanjay Dutt) is a first year medical student whose ambition in life is to become a "Great Doctor" so that he can impress his childhood sweetheart, who had rejected his marriage proposal due to her father's disapproval of Munna's poor financial status. His father, Mr. Bhadkamkar (Pankaj Kapur), an honest bank employee had died due to shock caused by the news that Munna had failed in his tenth standard examinations. During the funeral of his father, he encounters Dr. Jha (Arshad Warsi), a rich local doctor, who had failed his tenth standard three times. Munna also meets his professor, Dr. Asthana (Sushant Singh) who has the habit of speaking "Diarrhoeic English". The story follows Munna, Dr. Jha and Dr. Asthana becoming great friends sharing an apartment in Bombay. During their studies, they encounter many different characters including Pandit Ganganath Shastri (Asrani), Jehangir Gaiwala (Vikram Gokhale), police officer Waghchaure (Chunkey Pandey), and Beera Bhai (Jimmy Shergill). The film ends with them winning the hearts of Devki Shastri (Shilpa Shetty), Jehangir Gaiwala's daughter, while Dr. Asthana marries Devki.According to The Daily Telegraph, it came after 18 years since the successful debut film of Sanjay Dutt, "Aakrosh".The Daily Mirror called Rajkumar Hirani's movie "a breathless comedy that raises many laughs". The New York Post said it "is worth a weekend matinee." Daily News and Analysis called it a "smirk-inducing adventure in which sanitary bonds and mad doctors collide". cfa1e77820
